In the late 1970s, after unexpectedly losing his job, my father, Mark, stepped in to run a small sandwich shop with little preparation and a determination to make it succeed. He learned every aspect of the business, from preparing food and serving customers to managing inventory and controlling costs. Drawing on the buying instincts passed down from his father, he discovered that smart sourcing could be just as important as great food.

As his restaurants grew, so did the opportunity to build a distribution business that supplied not only his own operations but other foodservice businesses as well. In those early days, deliveries were made in a refrigerated truck parked in the driveway overnight so its ice cooled walls would be ready by morning. Every order was packed by hand, every customer mattered, and every challenge became another lesson.

Growing up in the business meant seeing it all firsthand. We walked meat packing plants, unloaded railcars of frozen chicken, collected payments from customers, and learned that success comes from showing up, solving problems, and never asking someone else to do a job you would not do yourself.

Today, Lawrence Wholesale sources proteins from around the world while remaining grounded in the values that built the company. We understand the pressures our customers face because we have lived them ourselves. We know that every purchasing decision affects margins, operations, and long-term success. That perspective continues to guide every relationship we build.

Our company proudly carries my grandfather Lawrence’s name as a reminder of where we began and what still matters today: treating customers fairly, creating lasting partnerships, and earning trust through hard work, knowledge, and service.
